Early Stage Design (A013/A014)
GRC has had a longstanding involvement with design computing and with the US/UK Design Computing Working
Group in particular and University College London (UCL), providing software such as PCG and GODDESS. UCL were
amongst the earliest operators of Paramarine and its predecessor Aquamarine. This has led to a number of
Paramarine features being developed to help in early stage design, in particular the Quickhull function. These
capabilities led to Paramarine being identified as a suitable platform for the SURFCON methodology developed
at UCL by Dr Chris Dicks to be implemented for use by UK MoD projects. Early stage design is available for
surface ships as well as submarines.
Above we see the SURFCON initial grid of decks and bulkheads that guides the user in siting their top-level
building blocks. Initially blocks are either cylinders or cuboids for rapid definition.
